 The "Chemical Olympics" were held in Portland on Wednesday, August 20th, 2008. The Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine created the event to highlight the United States' poor performance in protecting children and adults from toxic chemicals in everyday products. The Alliance urged US lawmakers to 'get in shape' and follow Maine's lead in preventing harm from dangerous chemicals. The Alliance is encouraging Maine's congressional delegation to speed federal efforts to prevent disease and lower health costs resulting from toxic chemical exposure.
