Our Citizen-Backed Proposal
Right now, retailers and consumers are left in the dark as to which products contain phthalates. Our proposal to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection calls for requiring manufacturers of household products to report that information publicly. We need your help so that parents, pregnant women and all Mainers know which products contain these harmful chemicals.

Despite Worries Over Toxins, Breast-Feeding Still Best for Infants

Many mothers who breast-feed have been alarmed and perplexed by reports regarding toxins discovered in breast milk. But a review of data from several studies has found that the benefits of breast-feeding far outweigh these potential risks.
Trade pacts may undermine state laws

By Peggy Rotundo and John Patrick. Special to the NEWS. A mother in the grocery store wants to be sure that the formula she is feeding her infant is safe. A father buying a toy wants to know if it contains lead paint, which would pose major health risks to his child. Recent problems with unsafe imports and toxins in everyday products have put everyone on alert, and state legislatures across the country, including Maine, have responded with much-needed laws to regulate toxic products.
