Saliva Test Basics
Saliva or oral fluid based drug tests are becoming more prevalent because of their convenience and the fact that they can not be adulterated.
The general procedure is to keep the subject from drinking or inserting anything in the mouth for a period of time about 15 minutes. A collection of saliva is then obtained and either mixed with chemicals or placed onto a color-test strip in order to determine the presence of alcohol or other drugs.

Saliva test is less efficient than other testing methods in detecting marijuana use.
Testing is usually performed by employers, for either pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, or return-to-duty testing.
